Rep. Bryan Slaton (R–Royse City) expelled from the Texas House

The Texas House voted 147-0 in favor of House Resolution (HR) 1542 by Rep. Andrew Murr (R–Junction) Tuesday, May 9, 2023, to expel Rep. Bryan Slaton (R–Royse City) from the body. This vote came after allegations of inappropriate behavior with a staffer under age 21. The House General Investigating Committee called for the vote on Saturday after releasing its report on the matter. Slaton had resigned on Monday; however, the vote was necessary in order to ensure Slaton did not continue receiving a salary or other benefits. A special election will be held to fill Slaton’s seat, but that election likely will not take place until after the end of the regular session.
