Lujan won a November 2021 special election to fill a vacancy in House District 118. Current term expires Jan. 2023.
Lujan was endorsed in the 2021 special election as a "School Choice Champion" by the American Federation for Children, an organization founded by former U.S. Secretary of Education Betsy DeVos that advocates for private school vouchers.
Lujan previously won a special election in 2016 and briefly represented House District 118. He was defeated in his re-election bid in the 2016 general election and again in 2018.
Lujan also ran unsuccessfully for HD 118 in the 2006 Republican primary election.
